Dr. Wilson is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon at The Royal Melbourne Hospital in Parkville, Australia with a special clinical interest in Facial Aesthetic Surgery, Facial Reconstruction, and Head and Neck Microsurgery. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) and a member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). Dr. Wilson is currently a Clinical Senior Lecturer within the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at the University of Melbourne. Dr. Wilson’s research interests include the Applied Vascular Anatomy of the Face, Soft Tissue Mechanobiology, and the Mechanical Regulation of Fat Graft Outcomes.
After graduating from The University of Melbourne in 1994, Dr. Wilson undertook his internship and residency at St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne. He completed his training in Plastic Reconstructive Surgery in Melbourne in 2004. At the conclusion of his training he undertook a Microsurgical Research Fellowship at The Bernard O’Brien Institute from 2004 to 2007. During this period his research focused on Functional Adipose Tissue Engineering and Stem Cell Mechanobiology.

Dr. Wilson has published numerous textbook chapters and articles in peer-reviewed journals. He has been invited to speak at a number of international and local meetings on subjects relating to Facial Anatomy, Aesthetics and Reconstruction. Dr. Wilson described both the Superior Thyroid Artery Perforator (STAP) Flap for Head and Neck Reconstruction, and The Facial Artery Advancement Rotation Myomucocutaneous (FARM) Flap for aesthetic functional reconstruction of total lower lip defects. He is the recipient of numerous awards and competitive scholarships, including The University of Melbourne Melville Hughes Scholarship (2006), The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Surgeon Scientist Award (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008), The University of Melbourne Faculty Medical Research Scholarship (2004, 2005), and the St Vincent’s Health Research Scholarship (2004, 2005). Dr. Wilson received the Best Free Paper Award at the 19th Congress of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ISAPS) in 2008.

Dr. Wilson is in private practice in Melbourne with a special interest in Facial Aesthetic Surgery and Reconstruction, and Head and Neck Microsurgery. He is honoured to be part of the MAFAC faculty.
