Christopher Coombs trained in Melbourne in plastic and reconstructive surgery after completing his medical degree through Monash University graduating with Honours. He completed training in Plastic Surgery in 1992 and then was the craniofacial fellow at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne. Following this he did further postgraduate studies at Harvard University in Boston and Toronto Sick Kids in the field of paediatric hand and microvascular surgery. He has particular interests in aesthetic surgery, facial palsy, paediatric hand surgery and microsurgery, ear reconstruction, and congenital genital anomalies.

He has published over 30 papers in peer review journals on a variety of plastic surgery topics and has been invited to be a member of numerous panel discussions at both local and international society meetings particularly in the fields of facial palsy reconstruction and ear reconstruction and otoplasty utilizing his anatomical subunit approach.

He currently is Chief of Hand and Microvascular Surgery and Head of the Microtia clinic at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne and is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne. He is the immediate past Chairman of the Victorian Board of Plastic Surgery and immediate past Deputy Chairman of the Australasian Board of Plastic Surgery for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He also is a member of the Victorian Dept. of Health Leadership Group for the Paediatric Clinical Network which is looking at the delivery of Child Health services for the State of Victoria.
